On 22, April 2019, under the Cooperation Agreement between Vietnam Government and Wallonie - Bruxelles Government (Belgium) for the stage 2019-2021, on the occasion of visiting of economic mission from Wallonie from 21 to 26 April 2019 in Vietnam, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) was in collaboration with the Wallonie - Bruxelles Agency in Vietnam (WBI, Belgium) organized the international conference of "Environment and Sustainable Development: A Cooperation Priority between Vietnam and Wallonie - Bruxelles”.
Attending the conference, the WBI delegation included Sir. Gilles Mahieu, Governor of Braban Wallon province (Bruxelles), Mrs Anne Lange, Senour representative of Wallonie - Bruxelles (located in Vietnam), and representatives from Department of Investment and Trade Promotion Center.

Dr Nguyen Thien Tue – IUH’s President, together with the Board of Director’s members, leaders from different departments, offices, centers and university lecturers and students attended the conference. Distinguished guests were Prof. Dr. Pham Hung Viet – Director of Center for Environmental Technology and Sustainable Development and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Van Hop – Director of Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology from Vietnam National University, Hanoi. There were a number of participants from environmental business who pay much interest in sustainable development together with scientists outside and students inside the university.

On his speech delivered at the conference, Dr. Nguyen Thien Tue – IUH President stressed on that “The Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City is committed to support the Project No.21 (A Support for Establishment of Drought Observatory in Central Vietnam) and the Project No.22 (continuously offer program of IMES and establishment of Center for Research and Environmental Technology Transfer) for a successful implementation and achievement. The university will facilitate relationship between Belgian and Vietnamese businesses in order to strongly promote the technology transfer and trade activities in the field of environment as well as other strong industries of Wallonie - Brussels.”

On behalf of Delegation Wallonie - Bruxelles in Vietnam, Madam Anne Lange said: “This is an important occasion to introduce you the cooperative projects between Belgium and Vietnam in recent years, and I hope that this conference also brings many opportunities for collaboration between businesses and scientists from both countries. The establishment of Center for research, application, and transfer of environmental technology in IUH is definitely a fruitful achievement from the mutual collaboration, also, a place for promotion and provision of cooperation opportunities for Belgium and Vietnam”.

In the period time of 2019-2021, the Wallonie - Brussel government has signed a cooperation agreement with Vietnam government (the Ministry of Planning and Investment works as Agency). Among 25 projects approved by the two governments, there are two ones managed by IUH: the Project No.21 (A Support for Establishment of Drought Observatory in Central Vietnam) and the Project No.22 (continuously offer program of IMES and establishment of Center for research, application, and transfer of environmental technology). In addition, IUH was in collaboration with the other two projects: the Project No.24 with Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the Project No.23 with Tra Vinh University. These outcomes show that IUH has been trusted and received high priority from Wallonie-Bruxelles on environment and sustainable development for Vietnam in near future.
After the opening ceremony, some researches were presented by scientists. In particularly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hung Anh – Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences, Technology and Management of IUH presented the research “Role, mission, and operation of the Center for Research and Environmental Technology Transfer at IUH serving Vietnamese and international businesses”. Mr Eric Blétard – Trade & Investment Counsellor of Wallonie in Ho Chi Minh City introduced the the project “Renewable energy: Industrial solutions made in Wallonia”, the relationship between universities and enterprises”. Prof.Dr. Pham Hung Viet - Director of Center for Environmental Technology and Sustainable Development, from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, presented the research “Energy Recovery of Liquid and Solid Waste”. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Duong Van Hop – Director of Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology from Vietnam National University, Hanoi presented his research with topic of “Environmental sustainable development: Case studies of experience in project implementation” in collaboration with với Prof. Thonart and Prof. Dommes from Liège University (producing food for shrimp without using antibiotic; producing bio-repellent; using shrimp shells for producing bio-fertilizers).
The contents of discussion in the conference was considered as a base for an economic with sustainable development, friendly with environment, linking between institution and industry, enhancing cooperation in protecting environment missions.
At the end of conference, Mr Tran Van Thang – IUH Vice Rector – guided the delegation visit Center of Information and Library, some training spaces and singing on the Memorial book of the university.
