Following the success from spreading the positive civic spirit of the previous courses, in the period from 22-24 April 2022, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City organized the 4th Active Citizen training course in 2022 with the theme "Innovative thinking in community service activities. The training attracted the participation of 45 students who are lecturers and students of the university.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training course, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, Vice Rector of IUH expressed his hope: "The university wishes to train students who are not only good at professional expertise but also live responsibly with the community development and the country’s common prosperity. Through the training, I hope students will have more confidence, understand the value of difference, improve their understanding of their community and be able to develop action plans for the community."
The training programme is designed based on the Active Citizen-Social Enterprise (ACSE) training course implemented by the British Council in more than 80 countries, and has been adapted to match the core values of the University. "With this training course, we have made some additions and improvements compared to the original program, by applying a combination of "design thinking", a popular tool in innovation thinking training courses at universities around the world," said Mr. Thai Duy Tung – President of IUH Startup Club.
After 3 days of training, the students were inspired to become active citizens, equipped with the tools to develop creative thinking, as well as be guided the process of exploring problems, building projects to serve the community. Owning to this, students will have the opportunity to implement the idea of serving the community thanks to the support of IUH. In addition, through the empowerment of officials - lecturers and students to proactively propose and implement community projects, the University expects to promote initiative, entrepreneurship and innovation throughout the university.
As an active member when participating in the training course, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau – Director of The Student Counseling & Support Center shared: "When participating in this training, I broke the ice of my own prejudices, practiced the method of coordination and learning based on experience. This is a positive learning method that I can apply immediately after the course." Huynh Ai Tuong Vy, a student of the Faculty of Business Administration, was very interested in group activities in the training course: "I had the idea of a communication project at the school before participating in the training course, right in the program, I found friends who shared ideas to implement the project. Besides, the coordinators have suggested to me a lot of ways to promote creativity and apply professional knowledge to the project to serve the community."
