The Military Command held a propaganda conference to celebrate the 87th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Militia and Self-Defense Force on the morning of March 28, 2022, (March 28, 1935 – March 28, 2022). Attendees at the ceremony were Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Hồng - Commander of IUH Military Command, Vice Rector, Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung - Politician, Dean of The Faculty of Political Theories, Mr. Phạm Ngọc Anh - Deputy Commander, Deputy Director of National Defence and Physical Education Center, Mr Phạm Thanh Tùng - Deputy Politician, The Chairman of the IUH Military Command Labor Union and 97 officers and soldiers of the IUH Self-Defense Unit.
At the conference, Mr. Pham Ngoc Anh reviewed the glorious tradition of the Militia and Self-Defense Force (MSDF). After 87 years of building, fighting and maturing, MSDF has made many achievements, contributed greatly to the cause of national liberation, national construction and defense, been always worthy of the praise of President Ho Chi Minh: " Militia and Self-defense and guerrillas are the forces of the whole nation, which is a champion force, an iron wall of the Fatherland."
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Hồng asked the units to continue to propagate extensively among the people's classes about local defense and military work, especially the Militia and Self-defense Law; focusing on political and ideological education and improving the quality of training, ensuring that the IUH Self-Defense Force has a strong political character, high level and combat readiness to better perform the task of protecting order at the school; create both material and spiritual conditions for the IUH Self-Defense Force to operate more effectively and practically, contributing worthyly to the cause of national construction and defense.
Over the years, the IUH Self-Defense Force has contributed to ensuring national defense and security in the assigned area. Some outstanding achievements of the IUH Self-Defense Force in military and defense work in recent years are as follows:
- Certificate of Commendation to the Military Command of Industrial University of Hồ Chí Minh City for excellent achievements in the Emulation Movement of Decisive Victory in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 awarded by the Chairman of Go Vap District People's Committee.
- Certificate of Commendation to the Military Command of Industrial University of Hồ Chí Minh City for having well implemented the defense and security education in 2018 and 2019 awarded by the Chairman of Go Vap District People's Committee.
The Militia and Self-Defense Force is a people armed force tasked with both production and work, is a component of the People's Armed Forces of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the executive management of the Government and of the People's Committees at all levels, the unified direction and command of the Minister of National Defense and the direct order and command of local military agencies, which are responsible for protecting the government, protecting the lives and property of the people and property of the State at the level of communes, agencies and organizations. In peacetime, militia and self-defense forces are the core forces tasked with both production and work and playing the vanguard role in protecting production activities, preventing and overcoming the aftermaths of natural calamities and enemy-inflicted destruction as well as other serious incidents. At the same time, it co-ordinates with grassroots-level security forces to maintain political security, and public order and safety in localities, and participates in building grassroots-level establishments into comprehensively strong ones, making contributions to the building of increasingly firm local defence zones. In border, sea areas and islands, the Militia and Self-Defence Force co-ordinates with the Border Guard Force to firmly protect sovereignty, territorial integrity and border security of the Homeland.
