The Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2020-2021 was solemnly held on October 23rd, 2020 at the Adora Nguyen Kiem Convention Center, hosted by the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH), and the participation of more than 4000 freshmen representing more than 30,000 IUH students. Attending the ceremony, representing the Ministry of Industry and Trade were Mr. Ly Quoc Hung - Member of the Party Committee, Director of the Personnel and Organization Department; Mr. Tran Quang Huy - Member of Party Committee, Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Trade Union of Vietnam Industry and Trade; Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy - Deputy Director of Southern Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. On the side of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there were Mr. Tran Xuan Dien - Secretary of the Party Committee of the Block, Mr. Vo Van Yen - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Block, together with leaders of departments, central and local mass organizations, international organizations, enterprises, sponsors, news agencies, Party Committee, Rector Board, Trade Union Executive Committee, Youth Union, Student Union, administrators and homeroom lecturer representatives of the school.

On behalf of the IUH Rector Board, Mr. Phan Hong Hai - Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of IUH, gave the opening speech for the new academic year 2020-2021. According to the Rector, the academic year 2019-2020 was a year with many difficulties due to the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected the teaching and learning process of IUH lecturers and students. However, both lecturers and students have achieved many significant results in all aspects. In August 2019, IUH had successfully achieved four qualified AUN-QA standard training programs, bringing the number of standardized programs to eight in total. Moreover, in Scientific research works, the number of articles published in international journals in the ISI / Scopus index has continued to increase dramatically.

In the past academic year, IUH also invested more than 100 billion VND to build laboratories and modern-scale simulation rooms, which met new requirements for research and training. Along with that is the renovation of facilities, classrooms, dormitories, libraries ... to help students have the best learning environment. Advisory and student support activities have been implemented synchronously, the University had connected with more than 500 domestic and foreign enterprises for internships, sponsor scholarships, and jobs recruitment after graduation. Hence, the rate of students having jobs right after graduation has increased to over 90%.

According to Mr. Phan Hong Hai, the achievements of the past academic year were an important foundation, creating favorable conditions for the University to perform well in the tasks of the new academic year. The most important goal of IUH is to improve the quality of training and international integration, striving that by 2023, all the IUH training programs will be assessed and accredited by the AUN-QA and ABET standards.

On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ly Quoc Hung - Director of the Personnel and Organization Department, the Ministry of Industry and Trade sent the best wishes to lecturers and students of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City to achieve a lot of success in the new academic year, continue to develop strongly, especially in the training quality, and evolve its reputation in the training field. In addition, for the new academic year, he commanded the University to continue promoting its achievements, build development plans, do well in the management tasks, implement appropriate solutions and strategies, take advantage of opportunities and strengths to improve training quality and efficiency, actively build a strong and comprehensive faculty contingent, renovate training contents and programs in line with reality, improve teaching methods towards international integration, promote the proactiveness and initiative of students, promote socialization of education, link the training with applications, etc. The IUH will continue to strive more to make the University become a national key university which plays a pioneering role in the development of schools under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and one of the Vietnam Top Ten Application Oriented Universities; to catch up with the advanced regional countries in training high-quality human resources.

On the morning of October 23, 2020, the Youth Union and Student Union of the University held the Welcome Freshmen Festival for the new 16th Course freshers. The festival attracted more than 5,000 freshmen and 9,000 current students. This is an annual playground of IUH students with many activities such as Healthy Youth, Folk Games, Recycling Pavilion, Clubs / Teams / Groups activities to inspire new students before entering the new school year.

In the academic year 2020-2021, the University continues to implement the motto of action: "Innovating, raising new heights - Dynamic, global integration" to implement the educational philosophy: "Quality, sustainable development, and international integration”.
