On the afternoon of December 3, 2023, in Research Room 3 at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH), the inaugural university-level doctoral thesis defense ceremony took place, featuring PhD candidate Le Huu Vinh.
The dissertation, titled 'Assessment of Ecological Sustainability of Coffee-Based Farming Models in Kon Tum Province,' was conducted under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Thanh Canh and Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Binh. Notably, this event marks the first PhD thesis defense committee convened at IUH.
The PhD thesis evaluation council, established by Decision No. 2479/QD-DHCN on October 25, 2023, comprises Prof. Dr. Le Van Tan from IUH (Chairman), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong from the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training (Reviewer 1), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Chi Sy from the Center for Environmental Technology, Vietnam Association for Environment and Nature Protection (Reviewer 2), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Vu from Can Tho University (Commissioner), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Minh from Tay Nguyen University (Member), Assoc. Dr. Luong Van Viet from IUH (Commissioner), and Dr. Le Hong Thia from IUH (Commissioner Secretary).
The defense committee witnessed the presence of IUH School Administration members, including Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong (Vice Rector), Dr. Chau Minh Quang (Deputy Director of the Institute of International and Postgraduate Management), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hung Anh (Director of the Institute of Environmental Science, Engineering and Management), and Mr. Doan Trong Duc (Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Kon Tum Province).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Tan, serving as the Chairman of the Executive Council for the thesis defense, led the committee in assessing the candidate's scientific background, research achievements, and academic journey. Le Huu Vinh's performance during the project implementation garnered high praise from the Council members, who commended the notable research outcomes and the diligent efforts demonstrated by the PhD candidate throughout the course of his studies

Upon Ph.D. Candidate Le Huu Vinh presenting a summary of the thesis results, the two reviewers provided their evaluations. Subsequently, the Secretary of the Council presented the summary of scientists’ comments on the thesis summary. Other council members and participants actively engaged in the discussion, offering comments, suggestions, and posing numerous questions related to the professional content of the thesis.

The Council extensively discussed and unanimously concurred that both the form and content of the thesis fully satisfied the requisites of a Doctoral Thesis. Acknowledging its urgency, scientific rigor, and practical significance, the Council recognized the research work's importance.
Chairing the session, Prof. Dr. Le Van Tan, the Chairman of the Council, presented the Council's conclusion. The statement eloquently outlined the main results and novel contributions of the thesis to the realms of science and practice. Furthermore, the Council pinpointed certain deficiencies in both content and form, providing constructive feedback for the candidate to address during the revision process.
