On 27 March, 2019, in the afternoon, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) organized the the Kickoff Ceremony of the Subcomponent of “Building Campus for Training and Research of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City in District 12”, one of the components of the “Support for Autonomous Higher Education Project” (SAHEP), funded by World Bank.
The Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) is one of the three selected autonomous universities in Vietnam implementing the Project, funded by World Bank with the total fund of US$155, in which, US$45 is for IUH.
The total investment fund for the subcomponent implemented by IUH, under the framework of SAHEP, named as “Building Campus for Training and Research of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City in District 12” (SAHEP-IUH) is US$52.8 million, including US$45 million from ODA loan and US$7.8 million from IUH counterpart fund; the duration time of project implementation is 5 years (2017 - 2022).
According to Dr. Nguyen Thien Tue, IUH President, the fund from WB will be mainly used for the 3 main operations in order to improve teaching, research, and institutional management capability, in particularly, The fund will be used for the 3 main operations in order to improve the teaching, research and institutional management; in particularly, it includes (i) upgrading academic program and education quality in line with international criteria; (ii) equipping facilities and tools serving teaching and research, and (iii) building a new campus in Ward Tan Chanh Hiep, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City for eight engineering departments/institutes as IUH’s leading fields.
With the total investment fund that is estimated at about VND$3,087 billion, the new campus is built in the area of 25.97 ha in district 12, Ho Chi Minh city, with 2 stages: State 1: 2017 - 2022: Doing compensation, supporting re-location; preparation of investment with fund from WB loan and IUH counterpart fund; doing construction of teaching halls, laboratories, and practical workshops for the 8 key departments and institutes; equipping tools for labs; State 2: 2022 - 2030: Completing the rest construction (teaching halls, practical workshops for the other academic disciplines, physical exercising area, dormitory, etc….).
As Dr. Nguyen Thien Tue committed, IUH will effectively use this fund with high responsibility in order to create a modern IUH meeting international criteria, improving teaching and research quality, meeting the demand and needs from national and regional market, also, serving the national industrialization and modernization and the national industrial development strategy by 2025, vision to 2035.
Mr Ousmane Dione – Country Director of World Bank in Vietnam
Mr Ousmane Dione – Country Director of World Bank in Vietnam - said that SAHEP was one of prime projects that WB supports Vietnam Government in higher education. Mr Ousmane Dione also expressed his expectation of being with US$45 funded by WB, IUH can improve her teaching and research capability, and, meeting the international criteria.
