The Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City will be at the forefront of his grand vision to propel Vietnam forward in the Smart Manufacturing vision. With the support of IUH Smart Factory, there will be no lack of Smart Manufacturing talent pool to support the vision of Vietnam.
This message was delivered by Mr Alex Teo, Deputy Chairperson, CEO of Asia Siemen, Digital Industry Software in the Opening Ceremony of the “i4.0 Smart Factory Lab” on August 15, 2019 at IUH.

The Project “i4.0 Smart Factory Lab” is the cooperative outcome between IUH and Siemens including hardware – software transformation and training. The total investment is worth of over US$4.6 million, in which, Siemens provided equipment, technologies, training materials, and software (SolidEgd and 3D CAD with license) worth of over US$3.9 million; the rest of investment was from IUH’s budget. In addition, the Project was supported by Arizona State University by consultancy on curriculum development and accreditation based on ABET.

“There is a limited application of i4.0 in universities in which students have no chance to be trained on practical knowledge and skills that are needed for employment after graduation. Therefore, IUH had been actively at the forefront in applying i4.0 in teaching. The Project will provide overall knowledge of i4.0; also, skills of analysis, design, simulation, automation on i4.0 foundation; and skills of analyzing and designing monitoring system and industrial controlling that base on the Industry 4.0, integrated Internet of Things.
Furthermore, the Project provides skills of Digital Enterprise Management comprising production chain, supply chain, sales, and service through application based on clouds meeting the market-based needs.

The overall target of the Project is to focus on completing the “i4.0 Smart Factory Lab” to expanding knowledge and hands-on skills for technical students in applying i4.0 in manufacturing. As being scheduled, about 1,000 students from Mechanical Engineering Faculty, 400 students from Electrical Engineering Faculty, 300 students from Electronic Engineering Faculty, and 500 students from Information Technology are trained every year.
“The Project performance contribute facilities and equipment for the four faculties toward ABET and AUN-QA quality assessment in near future.” Dr Nguyen Thien Tue stressed.

On the other side, the Project provides trainings for local enterprises in manufacturing and automation fields towards i4.0.
Mr Alex Teo said, “This factory will train and produce professionals who are needed for the digital economy that is right upon us. The digital economy has disrupted our lives in many ways. With the focus on hands-on skills and not just theory alone, the students that this university produces will be trained to use the Siemens digital twin of product, production and performance to optimize the entire manufacturing value chain.”

“IUH will be at the forefront to propel Vietnam forward in the smart manufacturing vision, especially with the “i4.0 Smart Factory Lab” filling the ambition of the Made in Vietnam 4.0 Program launched by Vietnamese Government.”, Mr Alex Teo emphasized in his speech.
